Bio-Composite rain jacket
Constructed from an old bedsheet and sealed with a biocomposite made entirely of organic, naturally occurring materials, this jacket challenges the assumption that high-performance outerwear must depend on petrochemical-based synthetics.
The waxy, semi-translucent texture gives an otherworldly appearance, yet it is reminiscent of the waxy cuticles found on leaves.
This project pays homage to the Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest, including the Duwamish and other Coast Salish nations, as well as the Inuit, whose expertise in crafting weather-resistant garments reflects a deep, generational knowledge of material, climate, and land. Their approaches embody ultra-low-waste systems and a collaborative relationship with nature, values that inspired this project.
